VALE COLIN CHIDGEY

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Colin Chidgey, on Thursday 23 January 2025. Col Chidgey had a profound impact on the sailing community across Australia, well known and well respected as one of the top race officers who supported clubs and class associations for many years. Col also held roles with Yachting NSW and Yachting Australia as a technical official and competition manager.

Double handers Henry and O’Shea claim inaugural Australian Ocean Racing Championship

Sailing Mistral double handed throughout the series, Rupert Henry and Greg O’Shea won the inaugural Australian Ocean Racing Championship (AORC), the Sydney pair applauded during the prize giving at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) in December. In a case of extremes, Mistral, a Lombard 34, won from the John Winning Jr skippered 100 footer, Andoo Comanche. Sebastian Bohm’s TP52, Smuggler, took third while Anthony and David Johnston’s RP72, URM Group was fourth. All four are from NSW.

The Napper family is going to need a bigger trophy cabinet

A week after Rob Napper collected his fifth Australian 16ft Championship title crewing aboard IMEI, son Ash has skippered Manly boat Brace to victory in the national Flying 11 titles at St George. Combining with Taj Bridge, young Ash peeled off four wins, a second and a third to successfully defend the crown the pair won 12 months ago.

Vaikobi Windsurfer Class Australian National Championships at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club - Day 2

Course racing continued for day 2 of the 2025 Vaikobi National Windsurfer Class Championships at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club NSW, 22nd- 26th. Six races were conducted for all divisions. 3 morning races, followed by a lunch break, then another 3 races in the afternoon. Somewhat cloudy skies with a 10-15 knot south south easterly, and a few puffs up to 20 knots.

Sabot Nationals

The 61st Sabot National Championship and Sabot Week were held at Drummoyne Sailing Club from the 27th December, 2024 to the 3rd January 2025. Three Lane Cove boats participated in the regatta – Oscar Barnes in Usual Suspect, Blake Watson in Eat My Bubbles and Lachlan Frearson in Manta Ray.

Spectacular Sailing at the 2025 12ft Skiff Interdominion at Royal Akarana Yacht Club – Auckland

The 12ft Skiff Interdominion Championship took place at the recently built Royal Akarana Yacht Club in Auckland NZ. The 60th Cherub Australian National Championship was held 27 December 2024 to 3 January 2025 at Largs Bay Sailing Club, South Australia, with competing boats from Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.

"Celebrating Women in Sailing: Third Annual SheSails Meet-Up at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania Inspires Growth and Connection"

Nic Douglass, renowned as Adventures of a Sailor Girl, hosted the third annual SheSails Women Sailors and Supporters Meet-Up at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania on New Year’s Eve. With approximately fifty attendees, the event celebrated the growing participation of women in sailing, particularly highlighting those who completed their first Rolex Sydney Hobart, Melbourne to Hobart, and Launceston to Hobart races this year.
