Consumption volume of coffee in 2023/24, by type

In the marketing year 2024/25, it is expected that roasted ground coffee will account for around 71.5 percent of all coffee consumption in Colombia, with over 1.6 million 60-kg bags consumed. Soluble coffee, on the other hand, is expected to account for around 27.6 percent of the total consumption. That year, the total domestic consumption of coffee in Colombia is expected to reach over two million 60-kg bags.

Coffee is an important part of everyday life in Colombia, as it is one of the largest producers in the world and the second-largest coffee producer in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has a coffee cultivated area of more than 840 thousand hectares, and the departmentns of Huila, Antoquia, Tolima, and Cauca accounting for about 55 percent of the total cultivation area.

Despite the high production of coffee, most of it is destined for foreign markets, which is why Colombia imports coffee to cover national demand. Most of the coffee imported into Colombia comes from Brazil.
