Between 2008 and 2018, the share of primary education expenditure in total public education spending in Hong Kong ranged from 16.3 to 22.1 percent. The Hong Kong government allocated more spending on tertiary education in 2009. In 2019, education was the most important public sector expenditure in Hong Kong.
