Following the 2019 federal election, Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was re-elected, while losing the absolute majority he had obtained in 2015. In August 2021, Trudeau, then in a good position in the polls, called a new federal election two years before the date originally scheduled. Among the reasons for these early elections, several media sources mentioned the Prime Minister's desire to reconstitute a majority government. However, it appears that only 17 percent of Canadians wished for such a majority, and in fact, almost half of them believed that Trudeau would fail to obtain one. In addition, nearly one-third of Canadians hoped for a Conservative majority government.
