Paper and carboard packaging had the highest recycling rate for packaging in the European Union (EU-27) in 2022, at 83.2 percent. This was followed by metallic and glass packaging, each with a recycling rate of around 75 percent. The recycling rate of plastic packaging in EU averaged just above 40 percent in 2022, but rates vary widely by country.
