Distribution of cash and cashless money in Russia 2019-2024
The share of cashless monetary sources in Russia increased in the most recent year observed, with over 82 percent of money in the system being cashless as of January 1, 2024. The money mass (M2) is defined as an M1 monetary aggregate and balances in the domestic currency on time deposits of nonfinancial organizations, financial institutions (except for credit ones) and households. M1 includes the most liquid portions of the money supply because it contains currency and assets that either are or can be quickly converted to cash.
