As of 2023, South Africa was the leading importer of mineral fuels and oils in Africa. The country imported around 22.5 billion U.S. dollars of these products, which included distilled mineral products, bituminous substances, and mineral waxes. Nigeria and Egypt followed with roughly 20.3 billion and 12.6 billion U.S. dollars of imports, respectively. Overall, the continent exports more mineral fuels and oils than it imports.
