More than nine out of ten respondents in China and Saudi Arabia thought the commitments undertaken at COP26 would have a positive impact on tackling climate change, according to a survey conducted in early 2022. Globally, considering all countries surveyed, 58 percent of respondents believed in a positive impact. Nevertheless, many in European countries such as Germany, Spain, and Great Britain were skeptical, with less than 50 percent of respondents optimistic about the outcome of COP26 commitments. In France, this figure was as low as 33 percent at the time.
