The two leading online marketplaces in Russia, Wildberries and Ozon, were together estimated to have 494,000 active sellers, or those who had at least one product on sales, as of May 2024. The seller count saw an increase over the observed period.

Not only do the two platforms dominate the country's online marketplace landscape, but they account for a significant portion of the entire e-commerce market. Moreover, their logistics services account for over 80 percent of the e-commerce deliveries in Russia. The companies' success is known far beyond the country's borders, as Wildberries and Ozon rank among the most-visited online marketplaces worldwide.

Sellers on other marketplaces worldwide

The rise in active sellers on Wildberries and Ozon aligns with trends observed in other global marketplaces. For instance, Etsy, a handmade, vintage, and supplies platform, saw its seller base expand from 7.5 million to 9 million between 2022 and 2023, indicating a widespread trend of merchants embracing online selling opportunities. To compare, Depop, a C2C fashion e-commerce marketplace, recorded an increase of 100,000 active sellers over the same period.
