Highest grossing A24 movies at the global box office 2025
As of July 2025, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was the highest grossing movie distributed by independent studio A24. With a total box office revenue of 111.48 million U.S. dollars. Dystopian movie “Civil War” came second with more than 106 million dollars in box office, only slightly more than the horror movie “Talk To Me” the year before.
A24 won big at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony
Having won nine Oscars in total, including the coveted Best Picture and all of the acting awards, the independent studio has outshone larger studios, as well as streaming platforms such as Netflix. The genre-bending “Everything Everywhere All At Once” took home seven Oscars out of its 11 nominations. Michelle Yeoh made history as the first Asian actress to win the Best Actress, while her co-star Ke Huy Quan is the first Asian actor to win Best Supporting Actor in 38 years.
Are indie movies going mainstream?
However, independent movies are still struggling to reach the top of the highest grossing movie rankings, which are mostly dominated by movie franchises and extended universes. Unlike franchises that are backed up by astronomical production costs and marketing budgets, independent films have to work harder to attract audiences. Over the past decade, the global independent movie box office revenue has been highly inconsistent. Still, the box office revenue of the ten highest grossing independent movies has been sharply increasing since 2020 and it is projected to reach 1.7 billion U.S. dollars by 2023.
