In 2022, the highest employment rate among the Swiss cantons was found in Zurich, with 65.5 percent of the employable population in employment. The lowest rate was recorded in the region of Ticino, with an employment rate of 51.2 percent. This is most likely due to the canton of Ticino having one of the oldest populations in Switzerland, caused by a high life expectancy as well as the influx of pensioners to the region.
The employment rate is calculated by dividing the number of people aged 15 and over in employment by the total population in the same age group.
