Asia was by far the continent that registered the highest share of fatalities from natural disasters in 2023, with almost 75 percent. Contributing to this was the earthquake that caused more than 55,000 fatalities in Syria and Turkey. Africa recorded the second highest share of deaths from natural disasters that year.
