As of April 2024, ByteDance, the Chinese tech company which owns TikTok, was valued at about 220 billion U.S. dollars, which made it the highest valued unicorn globally. A unicorn is a privately held company with a market valuation of one billion U.S. dollars or more. As of 2021, there were over 590 unicorns globally, with the majority based in the United States and China.
