In 2022, the value of total assets of insurance corporations amounted to over 558 billion U.S. dollars, a decrease of around 60 billion U.S. dollars compared to the previous year. Insurers in Hong Kong struggled under the impact of COVID-19, reporting the lowest sales numbers since the 2008 financial crisis. One reason was the travel restrictions that inhibited mainland Chinese from traveling to the city to purchase insurance policies.
