Total container throughput in Singapore 2015-2024

The container throughput in Singapore amounted to approximately 41 million shipping containers, or Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEUs), in 2024. The harbor activity slightly increased compared to 2020 and reached an all-time high in 2024.   

Decreasing growth rate of the global container throughput

The global container throughput experienced some difficulties in 2020 due to a changing market and new requirements such as the obligation to use low-sulphur fuel. Many shipping companies were unsure if sufficient fuel would be available at any location and therefore tried to plan more carefully. However, the Singaporean port provided a transparent, consistent-in-policy and pro-business environment which resulted in the port being less affected than others. Singapore was able to reach the second highest liner shipping connectivity index with 112.77 points in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since 1913 (originally named Singapore Harbor Board), the company has been transforming Singapore’s port into one of the most powerful in the world. PSA International generated a revenue of about seven billion Singapore dollars in 2023.
