Statista overview report on politics and society in Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union
December 2021 marks 30 years since the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), which led to the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) becoming known as the Russian Federation, or simply: Russia. Emerging from a period of economic and political crisis, Russia now has the sixth-largest economy worldwide (based on GDP in purchasing power standards) and plays a major role in global politics. This report looks at how Russia got to where it stands today, focusing on current trends in its domestic politics, international relations, and society.
