Coffee market in Brazil - statistics & facts
Although the coffee plant was originally discovered in Ethiopia many centuries ago, modern world coffee production centers in Latin America. The region accounts for nearly half of the world’s coffee output, followed by Asia and Oceania. In particular, Brazil’s economy and culture are strongly influenced by coffee. Brazil is the world's leading producer of the bean by a large margin; second-placed Vietnam produces less than half the volume of Brazil. In terms of coffee harvest area, Brazil is the leading country, with its coffee plantations mostly concentrated in the southeastern region known as the "coffee belt", which includes the states of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo.

Arabica is the predominant coffee variety grown in the country, occupying more than 81 percent of all coffee-growing land. However, the yield of the Robusta variety, also known as Conilon in Brazil and other countries, is generally higher than that of Arabica. Despite the country's emphasis on foreign trade, domestic consumption of coffee has also grown in recent years. In fact, coffee is the most popular beverage in the country, along with juice, with 79 percent of Brazilians consuming it regularly. Baby boomers show the most enthusiasm for this beverage among different age groups. At the same time, in terms of geographic consumption patterns, Mato Grosso residents consume almost three times more cups of coffee per day than Sergipe residents. In addition, residents of Mato Grosso also spend the most on coffee, with an average monthly expenditure of 93.7 Brazilian reals, while the Distrito Federal has the lowest average monthly expenditure in the country, at only 32.4 reals.Coffee in Brazil is not only a staple but also an economic powerhouse, poised for continued growth and expansion.
