The e-commerce market has grown rapidly in Argentina in recent years, particularly since 2019. The number of e-commerce users in Argentina increased by almost six million between 2019 and 2024, representing a 30 percent increase in digital buyers. The country where Latin America’s largest online sales portal -Mercado Libre- was born was home to over 24 million online consumers in 2024. Digital buyer penetration is also set to keep expanding in the coming years. In 2020, just over half of the Argentine population shopped online, and in 2025 this figure is expected to ascend to roughly 64 percent. The size of the Argentinian e-commerce market can also be seen in terms of sales volume, where the country has witnessed substantial growth in the past years. In 2024, the number of items purchased by online shoppers had more than tripled compared to 2019, while the number of orders grew by roughly 180 percent during the same period. Once online shoppers decided what they wanted to buy, almost 70 percent of them chose debit cards as their favorite payment method, followed by credit cards and online payment services like PayPal or Klarna. When it comes to delivery, over 60 percent of the products are delivered at home allowing customers to enjoy the comfort of this practical method.For the e-commerce market to keep growing and remain as one of the preferred channels for the Argentinian consumers, the online stores will need to keep quickly adapting to their preferences, prioritizing simplicity and convenience.
