Ask anyone in London what a synonym for ‘good steakhouse’ is and they’re more than likely to say Hawksmoor. Unlucky, Angus. With an always-growing roster of restaurants across the UK (and now the US), it can be difficult to choose which moody and mahogany room to book, but the Seven Dials location in Covent Garden is always a fine bet. There’s a speakeasy feel to this location, and descending the stairs into a roomy bar area, you could just as easily imagine a Scorsese mobster nursing a scotch on the rocks, as you could a group of colleagues getting burgers and beers on a long Friday lunch. The main dining room—vast, dimly lit, and purpose-built for full fat Old Fashioneds and reliably on-point pieces of beef—is a buzz. It may not feel like the most exciting choice of restaurant in London, but Hawksmoor is always a reliable one.
