The Ría de Arousa is the largest of Galicia's estuaries. For centuries its size and wealth gave way to invasions, so in order to fend them off, the Torres de Oeste, (West Towers) were built in the 11th century, in Catoira, which today hosts the fun reenactment of the Viking Landing. Vilagarcía de Arousa, with a pleasant microclimate during most of the year, is the capital of the Ría de Arousa.

These waters produce the best seafood in Europe, including the clams from the small town of Carril. Moreover, thanks to the mouth of the rivers Ulla and Umia, this land becomes an oasis. As a matter of fact, this is where some of Spain's best white wines are produced, within the Rías Baixas D.O. region.

All along the estuary there are beaches and more beaches. The islands of  Sálvora, Cortegada, Arousa or A Toxa, with their spas, their pine forests and their elegant hotels. Or the lively atmosphere of  Rianxo, Boiro or Ribeira; ; the majesty of Cambados, capital of the Albariño wine, with its amazing square that is part of the manor house known as Pazo de Fefiñáns. And in order not to miss a single view, the spectacular lookout point of  A Curota in A Pobra do Caramiñal.
