After the New Year celebrations and January back-to-work rush, it can be very easy to fall back into a busy routine, without proper time for relaxation and recreation. However, there’s no better way to leave the January blues behind than booking up your weekends for February and March. If you’re having some trouble figuring out what to do in Dubai, check our selection of the city’s best upcoming events:
If musicals are the food of love…
Taking place on February 14th and 15th, PIAF! Le Spectacle at the Dubai Opera is one for the romantics… or at least the theatre lovers. This musical tells the dramatic story of Édith Piaf, a French vocalist and actress noted as one of the country’s biggest international stars. Alongside the gripping narrative, the musical features a moving compilation of Piaf’s greatest hits and even unpublished photos from her life. PIAF! has showed in 40 countries across the world, but this will be its Dubai debut, so make sure not to miss this musical spectacle!
Get musical festival ready
On the same dates, RedFestDXB promises an entirely different musical experience. Firstly, it’s not a musical—it’s actually one of Dubai’s largest music festivals, hosted by Virgin Radio at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. If that’s got you interested, expect pop, rock and EDM with a line-up including stars like Macklemore, Camila Cabello and G-Eazy. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a festival without some attractions—you can look forward to plenty of delicious food stops, brand stalls and activations, and activities during both nights of this exciting open-air festival.
Time for a February feast
An event that’s a little later into February and lasts a little longer is Dubai Food Festival. Running from February 21st to March 9th, Dubai Food Festival promises to satisfy all culinary curiosities and cravings during its 2-week run. Whether you’re looking for the special menus during Dubai Restaurant week or having some feasting fun on the sand at Beach Canteen, there’s plenty on offer across the city’s food outlets and eateries at this year’s Dubai Food Festival. You could even schedule a ride around all the various restaurants and malls, collecting free samples all the way! Keep your eyes peeled for the program to find out where to start your foodie fiesta.
Some food for thought
Dubai kicks off its annual art season in March, starting with the Emirate Airline Festival of Literature, which takes place in the first two weeks of the month. Now on its 11th annual run, Emirates Lit Fest is a perfect event for anyone for anyone with a passion for the written word, whether you’re a casual reader, a real bookworm or even a literary scholar!
If you prefer your books with pictures – or perhaps just films and art in general—then the SIKKA Art Fair is another excellent art season event to check out from March 16th to 23rd. Designed to support Emirati artists, the fair features a full and thought-provoking program of exhibitions, installations and films created by artists from throughout the Emirates, as well as live music from local musicians.
There’s no need for the start of the year to be boring with the amazing range of upcoming events in Dubai throughout the next few months – and with Uber to get you there and back, there’s no excuse for missing a single one. So, start organizing your diary and scheduling your rides now, so you won’t be left wondering what to do in Dubai in 2019!
