UAE National day 2018: how are you celebrating?

The 2nd December 2018 is United Arab Emirates National Day, the perfect opportunity to celebrate all the things that make Dubai special, from its spectacular scenescapes to its rich traditions.

Go old school

National Day marks the forming of the UAE as an independent state, so what better way to celebrate than spending the day soaking up the culture? Take a trip to the Dubai Museum, visit the famous Jumeriah Mosque or simply wander around the old Dubai souks. The Al Bastakia Quarter is a great area to explore if you want to feel like you’ve transported back in time as well as learn about the impressive transformation of Dubai over the years. Admire the architecture, pop into the galleries and then sit back and relax with a cup of Arabic coffee.

It just wouldn’t be a holiday without a firework display. Expect to see the skies lighting up all over the city in honour of UAE National Day 2018 – but it’s good to plan ahead so you get a front-row seat. Last year, popular spots included the La Mer beachfront area, the bustling Global Village and Dubai Festival City, which all hosted individual shows. Expect them all to be busy, but don’t worry – schedule a ride in advance and Uber can drop you off at your venue in good time, so you don’t have to worry about fighting for parking or seating, or driving home with dazzled eyes.

There are sure to be celebrations throughout the city over National Day weekend but don’t forget to take in the atmosphere at some of the city’s outdoor spaces as well. Burj Park is perfect for an easy and fun family day out, with plenty of space for playing and people-watching. If you want to take things to the next level, visit a different kind of park altogether and ride the rollercoasters at the Dubai Parks & Resorts. There are sure to be special events going on for UAE National Day 2018, and it’s the perfect place for cheering, screaming and celebrating!

Celebrate the things that make Dubai unique, like its incredible landscape. A trip to the desert is a great way to make the most of UAE National Day and is an unforgettable glimpse into Emirati culture. Try your hand—or feet—at surfing the sand dunes, watch a fire show under the stars or brave the quad bikes. There are plenty of desert safaris that will organize everything for you, whether you want a day trip or a camping experience, so all you have to do is show up and wear some boots to keep the sand out.
