The high-capacity version of UberX is available across Australia
After a successful trial in select Australian cities, UberXL is now a permanent ride option for riders seeking high-capacity trips.
UberXL is an affordable, plus-sized ride
UberXL is the high-capacity version of UberX, where riders pay more to request a car that has capacity for up to 6-7 riders. This option is great for riders who want to travel in a group or who have extra luggage, for example, for trips to and from the airport. Riders will pay around 1.6 times more than the equivalent ride with UberX to request a car that has a higher capacity.

Frequently asked questions
- How many UberXL requests should I expect to see?
In most cities that have UberXL available, UberX is still the most frequently used ride option. However, UberXL is a popular option for riders travelling with groups or luggage - such as social events and to/from the airport.
- When do riders use UberXL?
Down Small You could receive an UberXL request at any time, though it’s a particularly popular choice for airport trips where riders have luggage or for social events such as nights out.
- How does UberXL pricing work?
Down Small The time and distance rates for UberXL are about 1.6 times higher than UberX, which you can see on your city’s fare estimator. This means UberXL fares will be about 1.6 times higher than UberX fares for the same trip. The service fee for UberXL is the same as for UberX.
For cities with Upfront Fares, UberXL fares will work the same way as UberX fares - just using the higher price points.
- Can I toggle UberXL on and off?
Down Small You can select which type of trips you’d like to receive in the Uber Driver App. Here’s how:
- Navigate to the ‘Trip Planner’ section of the app by tapping the icon with three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner of your screen
- Tap the Preferences icon in the bottom right corner of your Trip Planner screen.
- Tap the type of trip requests you'd like to receive while you're online
- Tap the trip type to stop receiving this type of trip request
- To reset your filters and receive all trip types, tap ‘reset’
We recommend keeping all trip types enabled when you’re driving with Uber to maximise the trip requests you receive, as we expect the majority of requests to still come from UberX.
- Will I know which trips were UberXL on my payment statement?
Down Small Yes! In both your payment statement and in your in-app trip history, your UberXL trips will be labeled “UberXL”.
