Why some customers might get charged before an order is completed
For some cards that customers use as their payment method on the Uber platform, Uber may charge the upfront price of an order before an order is completed. This helps ensure that sufficient funds are present to cover the total cost of the order.
- Why am I being charged before an order is completed?
To make sure your card has sufficient funds available to cover the total cost of an order, we may charge you the total cost of an order upfront before it’s completed.
- What if the actual price ends up being less than the price I was charged upfront?
Down Small Your charge will be corrected to reflect the price at the end of your order. We’ll always provide a refund for the difference between your upfront charge and the final price, if the final price is less than the amount Uber charged upfront.
- What if I cancel my order?
Down Small We understand that sometimes orders get canceled. Our Terms and Conditions outline the circumstances where you will incur a charge for cancelling an order. If you are entitled to cancel your order without incurring a charge under our Terms and Conditions, we will provide a refund to you.
In some circumstances, you may incur a charge for cancelling your order. If the charge is less than the total cost of your order, we will provide a partial refund to you.
Refunds can take up to 7 business days to process, depending on your bank issuer.
- Will I get charged multiple times if my trips are canceled a few times?
Down Small Unfortunately yes, but we will provide a full refund of all the unfulfilled ride charges.
- How long does it take to receive a refund?
Down Small Your refund should not take long to be reflected in your account. The average refund can take up to 7 business days, but that time period is subject to change depending on a customer’s card issuer.
- What can I do if I don’t receive my refund after 7 business days?
Down Small If you have not received a refund after more than 7 business days after a charge, please contact your bank and provide the transaction details such as card number and transaction date.
