How we’re helping keep you safe
We introduced innovative technology to help ensure that your experience feels positive, inclusive, and safe.
Raising the bar on safety
Adaptable technology
We build in-app features to help keep you safe—from GPS tracking that detects if a trip goes unusually off-course, to tools that verify face covers.
Shared accountability
We help ensure that everyone—drivers, riders, couriers, and foodies—all have the opportunity to help keep one another safe when they use Uber.
Safety integrations
In certain markets, we help manage risk through integrations with Concur Locate and International SOS.
Helping to keep you safe at every turn
Concur Locate and International SOS are integrated
We’ve partnered with powerful employee risk management and safety communication solutions that let you quickly check in with your employees.
Every trip is insured
Uber maintains at least $1 million of commercial auto liability insurance on behalf of US drivers while traveling with a passenger.
Driver and Courier Screening
Drivers and couriers are screened before they are able to use the Uber platform.
Community Guidelines
Everyone who signs up for an Uber account across all of our apps is expected to treat each other with respect, help keep one another safe, and follow the law.
Providing peace of mind for all
We’re continually working to improve the safety of all the communities we serve: riders, drivers, delivery people, and businesses.
Ready-to-ride Safety Checklist
Before every trip, riders must confirm that they’ve taken precautions like wearing a face cover and washing or sanitizing their hands. We also ask that they sit in the back seat.
In-app Safety Toolkit
A dedicated place in the app where riders and drivers can easily access key safety information, quickly reach emergency assistance, and share their location.
RideCheck
Using sensors and GPS, RideCheck helps detect if a trip goes unusually off-course, if there’s an unexpected long stop, or if a possible crash occurred, then checks in to help provide support.
Ready-to-drive Safety Checklist
Before a driver or delivery person can go online, they will be asked to confirm, using a Go Online Checklist, that they’ve taken certain safety measures and are wearing a mask or face cover.
Face Cover Check technology
Technology will verify that the driver is wearing a face cover or mask by asking them to take an interactive selfie.
Driver screening in the US
All drivers are screened before they begin using Uber and annually thereafter.* This includes pre-screening and documentation, driving history review, criminal history review, and new offense notifications (where available).
Community Guidelines
Everyone who signs up for an Uber account across all of our apps is expected to treat each other with respect, help keep one another safe, and follow the law.
Restaurant food safety
Restaurants are expected to meet all relevant licensing requirements, follow regulations, and provide a safe area for order pickups.
Contact-free delivery
Uber Eats users can choose “Leave at door” deliveries, and delivery people are advised to follow food safety best practices that were developed with guidance from CDC and WHO.
Your business is going places. We’re here to help.
*Except in New York City where driving history reviews are conducted by the Taxi and Limousine Commission for drivers accessing the Uber platform.
