Finland's first fixture in the men's International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship takes place on Friday against the United States at Tampere's Nokia Arena.
Tampere hosted the tournament last year, which Finland — nicknamed Leijonat, or the Lions — won in a dramatic 4-3 overtime win in the final against Canada.
Russia was initially scheduled to host the tournament this year, but the country's invasion of Ukraine led the IIHF to seek alternatives to fulfil hosting duties.
As a result, Tampere is splitting the tournament with the Latvian capital Riga. Group A's pool games will be played at Tampere's Nokia Arena while Group B's will be played in Riga. Tampere will host all but two of the bracket games, with Riga hosting two quarterfinal games.
Group A consists of Finland, the US, Germany, Sweden, France, Hungary, Austria and Denmark.
Group B includes Canada, Latvia, Czechia, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and Norway.
The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.
