The no. 27 High School in Krakow is located in the Zwierzyniec district - a green and peaceful area of the city near Krakow's sport and recreation areas and picturesque boulevards along the Vistula and Rudawa rivers. The school has excellent sport facilities: an outdoor football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts as well as a big indoor gym, fitness room and a table tennis room. The green surroundings of the school facilitate contacts with nature and are an incentive for both teachers and students to engage in activities aimed at protecting the natural environment.
Our school is part of No. 18 School Complex in Krakow, which is made up of two departments: Primary School no. 19 and High School no. 27 (XXVII). We aim at promoting the value of education, overcoming academic problems, developing talents, shaping proactive attitudes as well as offering career counselling. Education, upbringing and care is provided for children from the age of 7 to 9 at the primary school, and youth from the age of 14 to 19 in high school. Daily academic, sports, art and other activities aim to cover all areas of interests to meet the needs of all attendees. High school students can take part in many different after-school activities such as our music band, school theatre and various sports clubs.
Our school has always had a reputation of a student-friendly and caring institution. The director of the school and the teaching staff are well aware that students from different social backgrounds can benefit from being involved in different EU educational projects. Bilateral and multilateral school exchange programs have become an inherent part of the school curriculum. For our students, taking part in former Comenius, Erasmus+ and now European Solidarity Corps projects has always been a perfect opportunity to learn about other countries, verify language competences and become aware of important problems that we currently face in Europe.
Every year, apart from residents of Krakow and the neighbouring areas, our school welcomes students who are both non-Polish citizens and Polish citizens returning to Poland after a stay abroad where they have been enrolled in other educational systems. These young people often find it very difficult to settle into a new reality, culture, and a new educational system because of linguistic and cultural barriers. In response to this, our school prepared a special educational offer for students with experience of migration. Students who do not speak Polish or who do not speak it well enough to fully participate in the educational process during classes constitute a challenge for the teaching staff. Therefore the teachers of our school are constantly improving their professional qualifications regarding intercultural and methodological competences by participating in conferences, trainings and workshops. The school employs teachers and assistants who are trained to teach Polish as a foreign or second language, while the library offers teaching materials aimed at this type of classes. As a result of these activities, we have been granted the status of "multicultural school" by the Krakow municipality.
High School no. 27 has also signed cooperation agreements with the Jagiellonian University and the Pedagogical University in Krakow, which allows our students to take part in numerous university classes and attend various conferences and seminars.
