Siri and Dictation

If you opt in to Improve Siri and Dictation, Apple may store the audio of your interactions with Siri and Dictation. Audio data, transcripts and related request data, such as the category of request you made, device specifications, performance statistics and the approximate location of your device at the time the request was made, may be used to develop and improve Siri, Dictation, Search and limited other language-processing functionality in Apple products and services. For example, transcripts may be used to fine-tune Siri, Search, Voice Control, Translate and automatic speech recognition models. A subset of this data may be reviewed by graders, with audio review being conducted only by Apple employees.

Your request history, which includes your audio data, transcripts and related request data, is associated with a random, device-generated identifier for six months. After six months, your request history is disassociated from the random identifier and may be retained for up to two years, and the small subset of requests that have been reviewed may be kept beyond two years, without the random identifier, for ongoing improvement of Siri, Dictation, Search and limited other language-processing features.

Your request history is not used to build a marketing profile and is never sold to anyone.

If one of your Siri or Dictation interactions is selected for review, the request, as well as the response Siri provided, will be analysed to determine accuracy and to generally improve Siri, Dictation, Search and limited other language-processing functionality in Apple products and services. Depending on the context of your request, a reviewer may access additional contextual data directly relevant to the request, such as names of your contacts or apps installed on your devices, in order to grade the effectiveness of Siri’s response. Only Apple employees, subject to strict confidentiality obligations, are able to access audio interactions with Siri and Dictation. You can change your setting for Improve Siri and Dictation at any time. To do so, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

You can delete interactions associated with a random identifier and retained for six months or less by going to Settings > Siri > Siri & Dictation History and tapping Delete Siri & Dictation History.

You can disable Siri and Dictation by going to Settings > General > Keyboard and tapping to turn off Enable Dictation. Then go to Settings > Siri > Listen for and tap Off, and go to Settings > Siri and tap to turn off Press Home for Siri or Press Side Button for Siri. Your interactions associated with the random identifier are deleted if you disable Siri and Dictation.

Translate

If you opt in to Improve Siri and Dictation, your audio, text input and transcripts of your Translate requests, associated with random, rotating, device-generated identifiers, may be stored and reviewed by Apple employees to develop and improve Siri, Dictation, Translate and limited other language-processing functionality in Apple products and services.

Your Translate requests may be retained for up to two years to help Apple develop and improve Siri, Dictation, Translate and limited other language-processing functionality. For example, transcripts may be used to fine-tune Siri, Search, Voice Control, Translate and automatic speech recognition models. If one of your Translate interactions is selected for review, the translation request, as well as the translation response provided, will be analysed to determine accuracy. Only Apple employees, subject to strict confidentiality obligations, are able to access your Translate audio. The small subset of your Translate interactions that have been reviewed may be kept beyond two years for ongoing improvement of Siri, Dictation, Translate and limited other language-processing functionality in Apple products and services.
